Cederberg Farm Life
Living simply, growing Rooibos naturally, and finding beauty in the everyday.
Life at the End of a Gravel Road
From coal stoves to Rooibos fields, this is what it means to call the Cederberg home.
A Different Kind of Rhythm
Life in the Cederberg has a way of slowing you down. Out here, the days are shaped not by traffic or city schedules, but by the rising sun, the blowing wind, and the seasons of Rooibos. The silence is deep, broken only by the call of a fish eagle or the rustle of rooibos bushes in the mountain breeze.
When we first traded the city for the farm, the adjustment was steep. Fetching water instead of opening a tap, cooking on a coal stove, and learning to keep food cool with a stubborn gas fridge tested us daily. But those challenges soon became part of our rhythm, teaching us patience and resourcefulness.
Living Close to Nature
The Cederberg is more than just mountains and fynbos—it’s home. Every day brings reminders of how alive the land is: dassies sunning on rocks, sugarbirds darting among proteas, and the ever-changing skies that stretch endlessly above us.
Living here means making do with what you have. Trips to town aren’t quick or frequent, so we’ve learned to stock up wisely, stretch ingredients, and create meals from leftovers. It’s a kind of creative cooking that reminds us of Ouma’s kitchen—nothing wasted, everything used.
The Rooibos Connection
Farm life and Rooibos are tied together. When the sun beats down and work feels endless, a jug of chilled Rooibos brewed with mountain spring water keeps us going. It’s not just tea here—it’s refreshment, comfort, and sometimes, medicine.
Every harvest season, the fields buzz with activity. Cutting, fermenting, and drying Rooibos under the open African sun is still done the natural way. Standing in the middle of those red-gold fields, you feel connected not just to the land, but to generations who worked it before.
Why We Share Our Story
Rooibos for Horses is a natural conversation starter. We’d love it if you:
Cederberg farm life isn’t always easy—but it’s real. It’s where resilience grows, where small joys matter, and where we’re reminded daily that good things take time. By sharing our Rooibos and our journey, we hope you taste not only the tea but also the spirit of the land it comes from.
So, when you brew a cup of Kookfontein Rooibos, know this: you’re sipping more than tea. You’re sharing in the quiet mornings, the laughter around the coal stove, the long gravel road, and the life we’ve chosen here in the Cederberg mountains.
