Natural Rooibos tea is typically brewed much like black tea, often enjoyed plain or with a splash of milk, and optionally sweetened with sugar or honey.
For a twist, some prefer adding a slice of lemon or using honey for sweetness instead of sugar.
Beyond traditional brewing, Rooibos can also be savoured as espresso, lattes, cappuccinos, or refreshing iced tea
When freshly harvested, natural rooibos tea boasts a significant amount of ascorbic acid (vitamin C), which diminishes during tea-making.
Unlike black or green tea, rooibos is caffeine-free and has minimal tannin levels.
Rich in polyphenols such as flavanols, flavones, and flavanones, it also contains unique compounds like aspalathin and nothofagin.
Additionally, the processed leaves and stems harbour benzoic and cinnamic acids.

Our Story
We are Norman and Karin, and this is our home, nestled in the heart of the countryside at the end of a long dirt road. For first-time visitors, the journey may feel like an endless gravel path, but upon arrival, the breathtaking beauty of our surroundings makes the trek worthwhile.
Since 2008, we have made our home in a charming house built in 1904. This platform serves as our online representation of the rich experiences we've had offline. Our deep passion for nature and the history of South Africa's West Coast inspires everything we do.
Our journey began in the bustling city, where we left behind the familiar to embrace the tranquil countryside, armed only with a few cherished belongings and a heart full of hope. With no prior farming experience or knowledge of rural life, we quickly discovered that our adventure was a mix of exhilarating highs and unexpected challenges—sometimes feeling like a joyride, and at other times, a bumpy ride we hadn’t anticipated.
At Kookfontein, we produce only natural Rooibos tea, which is what we proudly offer as small farmers.
For many of us growing up in South Africa, Rooibos is known primarily as a warm beverage or occasionally enjoyed as iced tea. However, on our farm, we've learned that natural Rooibos can be a delightful ingredient in a variety of recipes.
