Frequently Asked Questions about Kookfontein Rooibos
What makes Kookfontein Rooibos unique?
Kookfontein Rooibos is unique because it's grown naturally on our family-owned farm in the serene landscapes of Clanwilliam, Cape West Coast. Our Rooibos is cultivated with care, ensuring its exceptional taste and quality.
Is Kookfontein Rooibos organic?
Kookfontein Rooibos is not organic. While we don't meet all the specifications for organic certification due to the size of our farm, we take pride in growing natural Rooibos of high quality.
Can I visit the Kookfontein Rooibos farm?
Yes, by prior arrangement. We cannot receive everyone, but we do enjoy meeting our clients. If the 25 km gravel road doesn’t put you off, you’re welcome to arrange a visit and sit with us on the stoep for a Rooibos chat. 🌿☕
You do not need a 4×4 to reach us. A normal vehicle suitable for gravel roads should get you here.
Please keep in mind that our Rooibos operations have moved to a neighbouring farm, so there is currently no Rooibos processing to see at Kookfontein itself. A visit is more about meeting us, enjoying the farm surroundings and sharing a cup of Rooibos.
Visits must be arranged beforehand. We cannot accommodate unannounced visitors, and we do not receive visitors on Sundays.
Can’t make the trip? You can still get a taste of farm life through our stories and photos here on the website. 🌄
Do you supply Rooibos in single teabags?
Yes — but it depends on what you mean by single teabags. ☕
Kookfontein Rooibos teabags contain 2.5 g of Natural Rooibos. During production, two teabags are usually attached together and can simply be separated before use.
We sell our branded Kookfontein Refill Dispenser Box with 60 teabags, as well as larger quantities starting from 100 teabags up to 20 kg, suitable for businesses wanting to repack the teabags themselves.
If by “single teabag” you mean a teabag individually sealed in its own envelope, as commonly used in hotels, restaurants and other hospitality businesses, we do not sell these. This type of individual packaging is very expensive and is not a packaging format Kookfontein Rooibos plans to pursue.
Do you sell in bulk to save packaging costs?
Yes. 🌿 Buying in bulk is one of the simplest ways to reduce packaging and lower the cost per kilogram.
We supply Natural Rooibos Loose Leaf and Rooibos Teabags in bulk quantities, whether you are stocking up at home, buying for your business, or planning to repack under your own brand.
Our larger quantities use simple, practical packaging rather than lots of smaller packets. This helps keep unnecessary packaging — and the cost that comes with it — to a minimum.
For larger bulk or wholesale orders, please contact us if you don’t see the quantity you need in our online shop. We’ll happily discuss the best option for you. 📦🌱
What flavors of Rooibos does Kookfontein offer?
Kookfontein Rooibos itself supplies only Natural Rooibos — pure Rooibos with no added flavours, colourants or additives. 🌿☕
We are also resellers of the LEA Rooibos range, available in boxes of 40 teabags:
- Vanilla Rooibos
- Buchu Rooibos
- Chai Rooibos
- Cancer Bush Rooibos
- Chamomile Rooibos
These LEA products are available only in the 40-teabag boxes and are separate from our Kookfontein Natural Rooibos range.
How should I store Kookfontein Rooibos tea?
To keep your Rooibos fresh and full of flavour, store it in a clean, dry, airtight container, away from direct sunlight, heat, moisture and strong smells. 🌿☕
Rooibos can absorb moisture and odours from its surroundings, so a kitchen cupboard or pantry is usually a good home for it.
For bulk Rooibos, keep the bag properly sealed after opening or transfer smaller amounts into an airtight container for everyday use. This way, you don’t need to open your main bulk supply every time you make a cup.
Does Kookfontein Rooibos support sustainable farming practices?
Yes. 🌿 Sustainability for us is about making practical choices wherever we can — looking after the land, reducing unnecessary waste and using what we already have before buying something new.
We source our Natural Rooibos from local farms, buy in bulk, reuse suitable packaging where practical and keep our own packaging simple. We also combine trips to town and courier collections rather than making unnecessary journeys.
We are a small farm business, so we don’t claim to be perfect or completely waste-free. We simply believe that many small, sensible choices can make a difference — for the farm, our community and the environment.
Which payment options do you accept?
We use PayFast for our online payments, giving you a choice of secure payment methods, including EFT, credit and debit cards, and other options available through PayFast. 💳🌿
We prefer EFT payments to also be made through PayFast. This gives us immediate payment confirmation, rather than waiting for a traditional bank transfer to reflect, so we can start preparing your order and get it ready for our next shipment on time.
Your available payment options will be shown at checkout.
Do you provide Rooibos on credit?
No. Kookfontein Rooibos does not offer credit accounts or sell products on credit.
All orders need to be paid in full before they are prepared and shipped. This applies to retail, bulk and wholesale orders.
As a small family business, this helps us keep our administration simple, manage our costs and offer fair pricing to all our clients. 🌿
Can I request a refund if I change my mind?
Because Rooibos is a food product, we cannot accept returns or offer refunds simply because you have changed your mind once your order has been dispatched.
If your order has not yet been dispatched, please contact us as soon as possible. If we can still cancel it, we will gladly help.
If you receive an incorrect, damaged or faulty order, please contact us so that we can look into what happened and make it right.
For full details, please see our Returns & Refund Policy.
Rooibos and your Health Medical Disclaimer
How does Rooibos benefit my health?
Rooibos is naturally caffeine-free and contains antioxidants, including compounds such as aspalathin. This makes it a popular choice for people looking for a naturally caffeine-free drink.
Research into Rooibos and its possible health benefits is ongoing, and it should not be used as a replacement for medical treatment or professional healthcare advice.
Is Rooibos suitable for children and pregnant women?
Natural Rooibos is caffeine-free, which makes it a popular alternative to caffeinated drinks.
Children, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or anyone with specific health concerns should speak to their doctor or healthcare professional if they are unsure whether Rooibos is suitable for them.
How can I incorporate Rooibos into my daily routine?
There are plenty of ways to enjoy Rooibos! 🌿
Drink it hot or cold, with or without milk; make iced Rooibos for warmer days; or use brewed Rooibos in smoothies, cooking and recipes.
Because Natural Rooibos is caffeine-free, it can be enjoyed at different times of the day — from the first mug in the morning to a quiet cup before bedtime.
Is Rooibos tea native to South Africa?
Yes. Rooibos comes from the Aspalathus linearis plant, which is indigenous to a specific region of South Africa.
It is especially associated with the Cederberg and surrounding Rooibos-growing areas of the Western Cape, where the plant is naturally suited to the local climate and soil.
Is Rooibos considered a tea?
We commonly call it Rooibos tea, but technically Rooibos is a herbal infusion.
Traditional teas such as black and green tea come from the Camellia sinensis plant. Rooibos comes from a completely different plant, Aspalathus linearis
Is Rooibos suitable for people with dietary restrictions?
Natural Rooibos contains no caffeine and no added sugar, flavourings or colourants.
If you have a diagnosed allergy, food intolerance or medical condition, always check the product information and speak to your healthcare professional if you are unsure whether Rooibos is suitable for you.
Can Rooibos help with digestion?
Rooibos has traditionally been enjoyed as a gentle herbal drink, and research continues into its antioxidant and other properties.
However, Rooibos should not be presented as a treatment for digestive problems. If you have ongoing stomach or digestive symptoms, please speak to a healthcare professional.
Does Rooibos contain any allergens?
Pure Natural Rooibos contains just Rooibos, with no added ingredients.
However, we would not describe any food or drink as completely allergen-free for every person. If you have a serious allergy or sensitivity, please contact us about our product and processing information before ordering.
Can Rooibos help with skin conditions?
Rooibos contains antioxidants and has been studied for several possible biological properties, but there is not enough evidence to claim that drinking or applying Rooibos will treat eczema, acne or other skin conditions.
Enjoy Rooibos as a natural beverage, and speak to a healthcare professional about persistent skin problems.
Does Rooibos have any known side effects?
Rooibos is generally consumed as a beverage by many people without problems.
However, everyone is different. If you experience an unusual reaction, stop using the product and seek medical advice. Anyone taking medication, receiving medical treatment, pregnant or managing a health condition should speak to their healthcare professional if they have concerns about regularly consuming Rooibos.
